Creating is hard. Doesn’t matter if it’s a podcast, a video, or whatever. It’s hard, lonely work, fraught with momentum-destroying impediments like imposter syndrome, procrastination, and the blank page.

But this year, Descript creators overcame them all.

I mean, just look at what our community did in 2023:

We know you’re probably not satisfied. Maybe the work could’ve been better, you could’ve done more, on and on. And maybe that's okay, if it keeps you motivated. But we also want you to take a moment, here at year’s end, to appreciate yourself, the work you did, and everything it took to do it.

So here’s to a fruitful 2023. And to rolling your creative momentum into 2024.

Meanwhile, at Descript

We did a lot of stuff this year too. Like you, we’re not satisfied, but in the spirit of taking a moment to bask in our glories, here’s a few of our biggest 2023 releases.

AI Voices & Regenerate

This year we took our AI voice engine into the shop and completely rebuilt it. The new model is faster, easier to use, and sounds way, way better. Now you can fix impossible edits, and create whole voiceovers just by typing.

AI Actions

We joined the AI feeding frenzy, stuffing our faces with AI features to help you write and revise scripts, suggest edits, and automate a bunch of tasks like choosing social-media clips and writing podcast show notes.

Remote recording & SquadCast

We combined forces with SquadCast to create a true all-in-one app for creating podcasts and videos. Now you can record, edit, and publish using a single tool—and you only have to pay for one of them.

Eye Contact

No teleprompter? No problem. Now you can read your script off camera, then let Descript’s AI correct your eye gaze—so it looks like you’re looking right into the camera even if you’re not. Creepy? Kinda! But also incredibly useful and powerful.

42 million minutes: what millions of Descript creators did in 2023

Millions of creators, millions of minutes

Creating is hard. Doesn’t matter if it’s a podcast, a video, or whatever. It’s hard, lonely work, fraught with momentum-destroying impediments like imposter syndrome, procrastination, and the blank page.

But this year, Descript creators overcame them all.

I mean, just look at what our community did in 2023:

Remove all your “ums” and “uhs” with a click, correct your voiceover by typing, and get studio-quality sound wherever you record. Check out our
Tools that work for creators.

How Descript Uses AI To Match Room Tone For Seamless Edits

Few recordings of human speech are recorded “perfectly” — that is to say, inside an acoustically treated studio, with a high-quality microphone, and without external noise or interference. Most are recorded imperfectly, with varying degrees of background noise and unwanted sound. Maybe there’s an air conditioner in the background or line-level fuzz. This is known as room tone, and when it comes to editing audio, dealing with room tone can be challenging and costly, requiring the use of dedicated plugins and software.
