Underlord, Descript’s AI co-editor, can pretty much do anything it’s possible to do in Descript—all you have to do is ask. Which is great. Until you’re staring at the blinking cursor, trying to figure out what to ask. Unlimited possibility has a way of turning into creative quicksand.

And even if you do know where to start, prompting is an art. Or maybe that’s just a pretentious way of saying: it’s really damn hard to get AI to do exactly what you want. It usually takes a lot of context, iteration, trial-and-error.

That's why we made templates.

‎Templates are battle-tested workflows, handcrafted by our engineering and video teams for some of the most popular kinds of videos. Instead of you trying to dream up the perfect prompt, you just pick the template you need—a social ad, a slide-deck presentation, an explainer, a product promo, even a video podcast—and Underlord will help you make it.

It won’t just haul off and make a generic video, either. As Underlord builds your edit, it’ll pause to ask you questions about your assets, your goals, and your style choices, so the finished product is uniquely yours. Think of it less like “pressing play” and more like giving directions to a very patient, slightly sycophantic but totally tireless co-pilot.

How templates work

Step 1. Pick a template. You’ll see them right on Descript’s home screen.

Step 2. Let Underlord cook. The template contains all the prompts Underlord needs to start making your video.

Step 3. Answer its questions. Underlord will check in—“Which slide deck? Do you want captions? Any brand colors to add?”—and use your answers to shape the edit until it’s exactly what you want. That’s it. No blank-page panic, no endless prompt-futzing. Just a custom-made video, made faster.

Featured templates: A few things you can make

Here’s a taste of what’s in the library now (we’ve got lots more on the way):

  • Marketplace product listing video: Showcase your product to help you sell stuff on Amazon, eBay, Etsy, and beyond.
  • Generated video: Feed Underlord a prompt and illustration style, and watch it spin up AI-generated content, with visuals and narration.
  • Real estate listing video: Combine photos, clips, and music to spotlight a property in minutes.
  • Family video montage: Turn your photos and clips into a heartfelt tribute or milestone reel (then make your friends or underlings watch it).
  • Video summary of an article: Transform a blog post, newsletter, or article into a narrated video recap.
  • Audiograms from an audio podcast: Turn your podcast into shareable social clips, with waveforms, captions, and visuals.

Templates are your Underlord cheat code: a shortcut to get from idea to finished video without losing hours in the weeds.

Go try one—pick a template, give Underlord your assets, and watch it build you something that feels polished and personal.
