What type of content do you primarily create?
Today we launched Descript Season 7 with some big news for podcasters.
First, we’re introducing Descript Rooms, our integrated, collaborative recording studio. We’re talking reliable 4K multitrack recording and an effortless guest experience, and of course it’s seamlessly integrated into Descript—so pretty much as soon as you hit stop, you're ready to start editing.
Second, because we know that most podcasters record with Zoom, we're launching a Zoom integration that lets you import multitrack Zoom sessions in a click. Descript is the only place you can do that, so if you record your podcast on Zoom—or your webinar or whatever—you're going to want to edit in Descript.
Finally, we're shipping an all new Underlord feature: Automatic Multicam. It uses AI to switch between visual layouts using your branded templates. More on that below; it's super cool.
The best way to see how it all comes together is to watch the video. But if you are a person who prefers text—for instance a lawyer, or a medieval monk—read on for a quick description of each new feature.
Descript Rooms
When you make a podcast with other people, you want high-quality multitrack recording because it makes editing way easier. What also makes editing easier is recording right into your editor—so you don’t have to download and transfer any cumbersome files, or wait forever for them to export.
You also want a recorder you can trust: that doesn’t fail when someone’s internet is slow or glitches out, and won’t lose your recordings if someone’s computer crashes.
Rooms gives you all of that. It’s a web recorder, but it captures locally, so no worries about internet glitches. And as you’re recording it’s progressively uploading to Descript, so if someone’s hard drive fails, you’re fine.
Rooms records everyone on your call in 4K camera feeds, so you get the highest-quality video available. And when you’re done, and you open your recording in a Descript project, everyone’s feed will be a different track. So you have complete control over every little thing in your audio and video.
Zoom integration
While we think Rooms is amazing, and makes Descript the best recorder-editor combination out there, we also know that you don’t always want to learn a new tool. In fact, you may never want to learn one.. Especially when you already have one that’s super reliable and easy to use—and all your guests already use it. That’s why so many podcasters record in Zoom.
We’re fine with that! If you’re one of those podcasters, please know that we accept your choices and welcome you to our communities, even to our homes, long as you don’t stay too long.
And here’s something to prove our acceptance: Descript is now the first editing tool that’s fully integrated with Zoom. Starting today, you can open your Zoom cloud recordings right in Descript.
All you have to do is connect your Zoom account to Descript. Then you’ll be able to open any Zoom cloud recording, and Descript will automatically transcribe it and set it up as a multitrack sequence. It’s literally that simple.

Automatic Multicam
When you record a video podcast with a guest, a roundtable, or any group of people, one of the things you’re going to have to do is make a ton of edits to cut between tracks, so that the person talking is mostly always on screen. It can take long time.
Well not anymore. Descript’s new Automatic Multicam does that for you in a click. Every time the speaker changes it will create a new scene and switch the layout. If there's a lot of back and forth dialogue, it'll switch to the multicam layout, for some reaction shots.
It only works when you record in Rooms—because with Rooms you get high-quality multitrack footage, so Automatic Multicam has the flexibility to make precise, professional-looking edits.
And that’s it: Descript Season 7. Altogether, we think this release cements Descript’s position as the best all-in-one tool for recording, editing, and publishing a podcast. Give the new stuff a try, and let us know what you think over in our Discord community.
